1873The City of Mannheim takes over Mannheimer Gaswerk and places it under municipal management
1888 The Käfertal waterworks commences operations. This marks the beginning of the central drinking water supply in Mannheim.
1889The electricity works at the industrial port commences operations with an output of 3.5 megawatts. This marks the beginning of the electricity supply in Mannheim.
1900The Luzenberg gasworks commences operations.
1906The City of Mannheim takes over the electricity works.
1923The Großkraftwerk (power plant) Mannheim (GKM) commences operations.
1958Reorganisation of the waterworks company (WGM) as Gas- und Wasserwerke Rhein-Neckar (Rheinag)
1959The inner city of Mannheim is connected to the district heating supply.
1962-66Construction of the office building on Luisenring
1964The Northern Heating and Power Plant (HKW Nord) commences operations on Friesenheim Island.
1974The proprietary operations of the City of Mannheim are re-established as Mannheimer Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH with the subsidiaries SMA, RHE and MVG.
1986The flue gas cleaning facility at HKW Nord commences operations.
1987The district heating pipeline between Mannheim and Heidelberg commences operations. The route has a length of 13.6 km.
1990An engineering agreement is signed with the City of Warsaw in respect of the renovation of the district heating supply.
1993Compilation of the energy supply concept for Budapest.
1996An energy saving analysis for the supply of district heating in Rumania is conducted by MVV Consulting.
1998Realignment and renaming of SMA as MVV Energie AG.
1999The stock market flotation means that MVV Energie AG is partially privatised in March.
2000MVV Energie acquires a majority shareholding in Energieversorgung Offenbach AG (EVO). MVV Energie acquires 100 percent of the shares in Köthen Energie GmbH and 25.1 percent of the shares in Stadtwerke Buchen.
2001MVV Energie AG acquires 49.9 percent shareholdings in Stadtwerke Solingen GmbH (SWS GmbH) and in Stadtwerke Ingolstadt Beteiligungen GmbH & Co. KG (SWI).
MVV Energie acquires 85 percent of the shares in the municipal district heating company Teplárny Brno. In 2004, the Czech city of Brno exercises its right to repurchase the shares.
2002A consortium of Ruhrgas Energie Beteiligungs-AG and MVV ESCO Polska S.A. acquires 49.9 percent of the shares in the district heating supplier of the city of Stettin (Poland). Fernwärmeversorger der Stadt Szczecin (Polen).
2003Commencement of operations at the biomass power plants in Mannheim, Königs Wusterhausen and Wicker, as well of the new waste incinerator at the energy from waste plant in Mannheim.
