Defra:

This documents is a review of current waste management practices and respective government policies. Readers can also find a section on EfW.

Environment Agency (waste section):

Comprehensive website giving information about the Environment Agency's activities in waste management and processes including national waste data.

Energy from Waste Research and Technology Council

WtERT UK is a sister organisation of the Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council (WtERT), based at Columbia University, New York. WtERT aims to bring together engineers, scientists and managers from industry and universities to identify and advance the best available Energy from Waste (EfW), technologies for the recovery of energy or fuels from solid wastes.

EU Commission:

The waste section of the EU Commission's website gives a comprehensive overview of European waste policies, waste strategies, waste legislation and its implementation in the EU member states (including the UK)

German Green Party:

In a position paper on waste management, Dr. Michael Weltzin, scientific assistant in the Parliamentary Group of the Green Party, described his position on the different solutions to the waste problem.

European Topic Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP):

The European Topic Centre on SCP is a consortium of eight specialist partner organisations from environmental authorities and research communities in Europe (including the Environment Agency). The mission of the Topic Centre is to provide reliable and comparable data and information on SCP, and resource and waste management in Europe to decision-makers and the public.

Environmental Services Association

ESA represents the UK's waste management and secondary resources industry. The website can be accessed using this link.

Chartered Institution of Wastes Management

The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) is the professional body which represents over 7,000 waste professionals working in the sustainable resources and wastes management sectors- predominantly in the UK but also overseas. The website can be accessed using this link.

This paper on Energy from Waste can not be found on the new Defra website anymore but provides a good overview on Energy from Waste technology.

Environment Agency

Umweltbundesamt (UBA = German Environment Agency)

CEWEP (Confederation of European Waste-to-Energy Plants):

CEWEP represents about 390 Waste-to-Energy Plants across Europe. The website contains a variety of information, ranging from an explanation of the technology to various topics such as emissions, health, recycling, etc.
